Document Archive

The Exercise Tiger Trust maintains this online archive as a research and remembrance resource relating to the Exercise Tiger action of April 1944.

Where possible, documents have been checked against available archival or historical records before being transcribed. Transcriptions aim to reproduce the source faithfully, including apparent spelling errors, omissions or other anomalies in the original document. Where a document is a transcription rather than a digital image of the original, this is identified on the page.

The archive brings together contemporary military documents, declassified reports, personal statements, newspaper reports, survivor accounts and later historical research. These materials are presented with attribution wherever the provenance is known.

The Trust does not treat every source as having the same evidential status. Contemporary military records, personal testimony, later recollections and secondary historical articles may differ in purpose, date and reliability. Researchers should therefore consult the source information provided with each item and, where appropriate, compare it with other archival records.

The archive is maintained by the Exercise Tiger Trust to support relatives, researchers, students and anyone seeking reliable information about Exercise Tiger and the men who took part in it.

Where material has been donated to the Trust, the donor and relevant collection are identified where permission allows. Where material belongs to another archive or copyright holder, the relevant ownership or credit is stated.
