Exercise Tiger
Roll of Honour

We will remember them…
Laurence Binyon

The Exercise Tiger Roll of Honour remembers the American servicemen who lost their lives during the Exercise Tiger action of 28th April 1944. Behind every name was an individual with a family, a home and a life beyond the military record. This list brings together the names currently identified through the Trust’s continuing historical research, into those who died aboard USS LST-507, USS LST-531 and USS LST-289. Please contact us at: visitor.support@exercisetiger.org.uk.

The Roll of Honour is a research project as well as a memorial. Individual entries have been established, where possible, by comparing military and service records with contemporary reports, official casualty and memorial records, survivor accounts, family documents, newspapers and other archival sources. Historical records do not always agree: names may be spelled differently, service numbers may be missing or incorrectly recorded, and later sources can sometimes conflict with contemporary documents. Where such discrepancies remain, the Trust aims to identify them rather than silently choose one version. Information may therefore be amended as further evidence is located and assessed.

Our purpose is to preserve the surviving evidence while ensuring that the men of Exercise Tiger are remembered as individuals rather than simply as a casualty figure. If you have photographs, letters, military papers, family records or other reliable information relating to someone named here, we welcome information that may help improve the historical record.
